J’adore Paris

Happy Friday, y’all! Look at that – I made it through a full week with regular blogs! I consider this a significant accomplishment, and one that I hope I can maintain.

Pretty much all of my wardrobe these days is from Target and Old Navy. Maybe that’s why I’m feeling stifled – as cute as those two stores’ clothes can be, I might need to branch out a little.

Until then, here is an outfit brought to you by both of my favorites. My Target jeans are a familiar staple, but the shirt from Old Navy is new. I almost paid full price for it, too, which is a ridiculous thing to do at Old Navy where they have a new sale every two days. But, graphic tees tend to sell out so quickly, and I’m pretty picky about what my t-shirts say, so I felt I needed to snap it up.

Cute, right? I was a French major, so a pun on the Eiffel tower is right up my alley (if the middle print is too small to read, it says, “Eiffel in love with Paris.”) J’adore.

Fortunately for me, Old Navy was having a 40% off everything if you use your Old Navy card. Fortunately for Old Navy, that was enough incentive for me to open one. I figured I shop there enough it’d be worth it for the sales. And, I’ve already earned $30 in Old Navy points or whatever, just by using it outside of their brand one time…so, hopefully the potential negative to my credit score will pay off. Just don’t tell Dave Ramsey.

Here’s the full, casual outfit. Honestly, probably not the most flattering shirt I own, but sometimes, you have to go with what makes you happy (including a twisted choker that bugs me, but I obviously can’t do anything about it now).

Do you have any graphic tees that you really like? What do they say? And what are the stores that you just can’t stay away from – do they define your style like Target and Old Navy have begun to do for me, or are they your favorites for another reason?

Have a great weekend, friends!

Holey Knees

In the spirit of moving on from winter, here is another outfit I won’t be able to wear anymore. Although I prefer the warmer weather, I do love a good cozy sweater (and scarf!), so I’m a little sad to put these two away.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but distressed jeans are all the rage now, and I kinda love this pair I have from Target. My only complaint is that I wish the holes weren’t right at both of my knees. It just kinda feels weird, and my favorite part of the distressed look is the white “strings” or whatever from the denim, and with holes at the knees, you don’t really get that look.

Guess I’ll just have to buy another pair with holes elsewhere! (Also, can we talk about how I was in elementary school the last time holey jeans were in, and I begged my mom to let me cut holes in the knees of my jeans? I’m old, guys – trends are circling back.)

Birthday Suit 2.0

While we’re on the subject of my birthday, I went out and celebrated the weekend before with a friend. Because I’m obsessed with the honky tonks in downtown Nashville, she was a good sport and tagged along. Now, sequins don’t quite fit the cowboy boots theme of Nashville. But, it’s my party, I can wear what I want to.

Of course, it was freezing outside, though, and downtown Nashville is a walking experience. So, I through on a blanket(ish) scarf and called it a day.  For those wondering, I was still cold. But, who remembers that when they have a great outfit to reflect on?

How do you like my sequins with plaid scarf combo? Too high-low or just enough mixing of styles to work?

Twofer Tuesday Returns

Y’all, I’m struggling with my blog this year.  For one thing, I have three jobs at the moment, which means my free time is super limited.  When that happens, my blog begins to feel like more of a chore that I have to squeeze in than something fun, and I don’t want that to happen.

For another, I just can’t find the right place in my new house to take pictures. I think my backyard might be pretty, but then it’s cold, and sometimes it rains…

And, I don’t really like my hair right now.  I can’t figure out my bangs situation – someone good with hair give me advice on bangs in 2016.

All that to say, please bear with me as I try to get a routine back up. It may be slow going, but I’m not ready to give up, if you all are willing to not give up on me. <3

With that, here is a favorite outfit from sometime before I even moved to Nashville.  I don’t remember now why I needed to change my shoes, except that I wanted to transition from day to night, and this was my way of doing it.  Also, I’m counting this as a twofer Tuesday.

TBT: Yesterday

Surprise!  My green pants are back.  I actually really love these pants, so I guess it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. I was trying to save them for a Two-fer Tuesday, but I decided I needed to clear this photo out of my queue.

So, here you go!  Totally different look – same pants.  I love chambray shirts for their ability to match with ANYTHING, and for the way they can automatically make an outfit look more casual, but still put together at the same time. My boots are super hard to walk in, but equally super cute and I’m really into tan these days as an accent color (as opposed to black, for example).  A few simple accessories, and I was done!

Workin’ Hard for the Money

So, big news from Nashville…I got a job!  And, it might be the most exciting job ever, as I’ll be working at the Country Music Hall of Fame! Basically, this job is a dream come true: living in Music City, working in country music – what could be better? Also, I’ll be in the development office, and one of our responsibilities is VIP events, all of which I’ll be required to attend.  I mean, twist my arm.

Of course, after I accepted this job, I immediately felt convicted by all the worrying and doubting I did.  Maybe one day, I’ll learn to trust God before I see the end result, but as someone very wise pointed out to me, perhaps the greater lesson is that God is faithful even when we lack.

Anyway, I chose to celebrate this good news by wearing all black the day it became official.  I really don’t know why black said party to me – it rarely does. But, the sparkly tights said party for sure, and I built from there.  Also, these boots make me feel super Nashville.

The Country Music Hall of Fame is a “creative” environment, as you might expect, and full of trendy people…so, who knows how my style and therefore blog will evolve over the coming months. But I’m excited to find out, and glad you’re along for the ride with me.

Also, I’m excited to meet celebs, but that’s neither here nor there.

Nashville Fashion

Even before I moved here, my best friend and I referred to Nashville as the perfect city.  Based on our experiences, it totally was, but I did have the slightest fear that when I actually lived here and wasn’t just on vacation, it might not live up to that moniker.  Fortunately, it has in every respect.

Between all the restaurants I’ve tried, TV shows I’ve been an extra in, and concerts I’ve attended, I feel like I’m really taking the Nashville bull by the horns. But there is one area in which I feel inadequate – fashion.

Maybe that’s ironic for someone who has a fashion blog, but Nashville is by far the trendiest/most fashionable place I have ever lived – and the style here is very specific. Whether it’s the floppy hat/wedge booties/black top look of the “it” girls, or the more bohemian/grunge/beanie (hats are really big in Nashville) stylings of the hipsters, I just haven’t quite mastered the Nashville look yet.  Because of that, I am a little self-conscious of my wardrobe, and all of my clothes now feel old fashioned. I mean, after all, I did spend the last two years building up the more preppy, traditional look of North Georgia and worked at a law school for years before that.

However, I’ve been inspired by something a musician told me when we were discussing the unbelievable amount of musical talent in this town. He said that instead of being intimidated by how good everyone else is, he’s motivated by those around him to become better. The “competition” pushes him to be the best version of himself. I like that – right now I’m stretching my fashion muscles, but in the end, I’ll be stronger for it.

In the meantime, here is an outfit I wore in Georgia that I probably wouldn’t be embarrassed to wear here, and that’s good enough for now.

Neon Lights

We interrupt this regularly scheduled programming to bring you: just a regular blog post.

I was out of town for Easter, and before that, I just had a really busy week and didn’t get to my blog as often as I would have liked.  So, at the risk of falling off the face of the earth for the 2nd week in a row, I thought I’d at least publish something today, and if I’m very lucky, even tomorrow and Friday.  This weekend, I should be able to get back on track (if I don’t run away with Tim Tebow, but I’ll save that story for now), so next Wednesday, we’ll look at another woman from the Bible.

For some reason, I’ve been on this t-shirt kick lately.  I don’t honestly know where it came from, but since I bought 5 t-shirts from H&M in a week, I guess it’s going strong.

I love this neon yellow I picked up recently.  I’m often not a fan of neon yellows and greens – I think they veer too close to snot when you have a cold.  But, I just really liked this one, so I picked it up, and then two days later, I got the cute infinity scarf I’m wearing that perfectly matched.  The purple jeans were a bit of a leap, but when I saw them in my dresser, I thought it just might work and went for it.  I also ended up completely coordinating with the bowling alley I went to later that night, so you know – that’s something.

1 - neon shirt purple jeanswpid-0327151821.jpgWhat do you think of my color combo?  Too much, or just so crazy it might work? (I did bowl the best game of my life that night and came in 2nd place – I’m pretty sure the neons are the reason.)  Also, how do you feel about bowling in general?  Or about me telling you that I once accidentally threw the ball into the next lane?

Let’s talk!

#FBF and the 90s

While I’m no longer 15 and thus not up on the latest lingo, I’m pretty sure #FBF actually means Follow-Back Friday, rather than Flashback Friday.  We already have #TBT – why would we need a second retro day, immediately after the first?

However, I saw an article on Buzzfeed yesterday that HAD to be shared, and Flashback Friday seemed highly appropriate.  Guys….JNCO’s are coming back!  Yes, that extreme wide-leg fashion staple of middle school that we’d all thought was buried forever – it’s making a comeback!  Or at least trying to.  I personally don’t think it will happen (or should), but the trip down memory lane was totally worth it’s weight in marketing dollars.  Check out the awesome photos on Buzzfeed here.

And then, let’s do a Tastefully Trendy flashback to when I still had my Christmas tree up.  Which wasn’t all that long ago, let’s be honest.  But, still.

My favorite thing about this outfit is the way the necklace and scarf lay against each other.  I don’t usually wear both, but I really liked the detail in this case. And my hair is in the pre-curl stage of my no-heat wrapping.  When I wear it during the day, I’ll use a pretty headband, and usually push it up higher on my head (or wherever it looks cute and won’t give me a headache).  This headband is actually pretty stretched out, so it’s hard to get my hair to stay in it long enough to curl.  I just keep tucking throughout the day.  #worthit

1- Scarf and necklaceWhat about you?  Flashback Friday or Follow-Back Friday?  JNCOs back in style: do or don’t?  What fashion trend from the 90s do you miss – and wish would come back?  Any you hope never do?  Let’s reminisce together!

A Christmas Greeting

Dear Friends,

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. I meant to send this virtual Christmas card to you on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but as is usually the case with me, my sentiment is late. Please do not take this to mean that I am any less sincere; just sometimes irresponsible.

I wish all of you a very happy rest of the Christmas season and an even happier New Year! And I hope you’re okay with me taking a few more days to get holiday outfits out of my system; they’ll all be posted about the time that we begin to take down our Christmas decorations.

Christmas CardMerry Christmas and much love,

Sarah Beth
