Tailgates & Team Colors

It’s that time again, y’all!  You know this is my favorite season of the year: football season!

While this prompt makes me think more of college, I’ve always been an NFL girl, and my love for the Indianapolis Colts runs deep.

A few days ago, I had my fantasy football draft.  Most everyone else in the league is from Rhode Island, so I got to skype in.  I could have worn whatever I wanted, of course.  I chose to wear my team colors – no time like the present!  And since it isn’t often anymore that I get to wear my Peyton jersey (it’s been mostly retired in favor of Andrew Luck), I thought it appropriate to pull out for this occasion.

Again, I tried the arm party thing…I feel like I’m getting closer. And added a long tank under the jersey to make me look a little more feminine/like I have any shape at all.

1 - tailgates and team colorsAre you excited for the start of football season?  If so, who’s your team (any level is fine!), and what are their colors?  If they’re not your favorite colors, have you figured out a way to incorporate them, anyway? (I way lucked out with blue and white.)  Let’s talk football…or the fashion of being a football fan.  Either way.

And be sure to follow me on Instagram for this weekend’s style challenge prompts.  Can’t wait to connect!

On the Last Day of Christmas

Last week I promised that I’d get all of the holiday outfits out of my system about the time we all took our decorations down.  Since my tree is still going strong (partly because taking down Christmas decorations is super depressing, mostly because I’m just lazy), I did not lie.  But this one will be it.  I’m pretty sure.

I went to a Christmas costume party a few weeks ago – I didn’t really know there was such a thing, but apparently there is.  I do love themed parties, but I love sequins and the Colts more.  So, with my Santa hat, I gave a nod to the theme, and wore whatever else I wanted.  Apparently it worked just fine, since Christmas Captain Jack Sparrow (the regular Jack with tinsel in his hair) proposed to me.

And that about wraps up the holidays for me.  But don’t worry.  You’ll still see more of my tree because it could be a while before it comes down, and it’s too cold right now to take any pictures outside.

Happy 2015, everyone!

80 Days of Shoes: BOGO

Football season is here, y’all! To celebrate, I’m showing you two looks today: two shoes, two teams, two ways to celebrate – all for the price of one. It’s a big day here on my little blog.

My explanations will be minimal – for one, the outfits pretty much speak for themselves. A) Go Tigers. B) Go Colts. But, really, if I say much more than that, this post will be too long, and none of you will read it. So, you’re welcome.
DSC_0896These fake Sperry boat-shoes are one of my favorite pairs of shoes. I actually prefer knock-offs to the originals in this case because they’re more feminine. The toe on an actual Sperry is too long to be classified as “cute” – and of course, everything I wear has to be “cute”.

Why Clemson, you may ask? Because that’s where my brother went. Good enough reason as any, I think.
1 - ClemsonNext, these shoes are from Target, so I see someone else wearing them almost every day. They’re about the only pair of shoes that I’ve ever bought without trying on, though, and I don’t really like them on my feet. Too Biblical.
DSC_0967Why Colts, you may ask? Because Peyton Manning. And Tony Dungy. And Andrew Luck. Classiest organization in football.
1 - Luck jerseyI’m a little sad I forgot my blue and silver nails in this picture, but I’m sure you can imagine them.

How do you celebrate your favorite teams with fashion?

The Boys are Back in Town

Today’s the day I’ve waited for since last February…NFL Kickoff!!!  My two fantasy teams are drafted, the Colts instagram followed, and my jersey is dusted off – I’m ready!

A word of explanation – I’m wearing a #18 Peyton Manning Colts jersey.  This jersey is now irrelevant.  Peyton no longer plays with the Colts, and I should have either a #12 Andrew Luck Colts or a #18 Peyton Manning Broncos jersey – or both.  However, I’ve as of yet been too lazy/cheap to buy either, so I wear Peyton’s to support both the Colts and the Broncos.  Today, it’s the Broncos, which, as you may remember from yesterday’s post, is the team that is going to win the Super Bowl this year.

I’m fortunate to support a team whose colors I actually like.  But me being one of the girliest football fans anywhere, I can’t just throw on a jersey with jeans and sneakers (side note:  I can’t remember the last time I wore sneakers outside of the gym).  Instead, I have to wear a stack of bangles, shoes with flowers and bows on them, and white pants.  Obviously.

Eye of the Tiger

I know I promised this post yesterday, but I was having blogger issues yesterday and traveling…but, good things come to those who wait!

As I promised, this post is all about Tigers…specifically Bulldog-eating Tigers!  Saturday was the first full-day of college football, and how lucky for me that I was supporting the best team of the week!  Now don’t get me wrong, I like UGA.  I’m an SEC girl, except for LSU and Texas A&M (sorry, Kitty Cat – get your QB under control!).  But, my brother goes to Clemson, so my blood loyalty trumps my artificial ones.

Clemson’s colors are orange and purple, as my shirt and jewelry demonstrate.  But, in the absence of purple shorts (which, now that I think about it, would be a great addition to my wardrobe), I veered off the beaten path and added my new $6 Forever 21 lime green ones.

Side note: these shorts are sized S/M/L.  How is that possible?  Does Forever 21 expect only three sizes of people to buy these particular shorts?  Or, did they get mislabeled like elastic gym shorts?  It’s odd to me.

Of course, me being me, I still wore a jeweled bracelet and bow flip-flops, and in true Clemson sorority girl fashion, purple pearls.  Just because you watch with the guys doesn’t mean you have to look like them.

Saturday’s game was awesome, but Thursday begins the real excitement….NFL kickoff!  Get ready for a lot of white and blue.  The Colts are back in business, and I still wear my Peyton jersey for Broncos games.  It’s gonna be a great season!

Prediction: Peyton gets his second ring this season, Colts win the AFC South.  Watch it.

Shorts: Forever 21
Bracelet: Macy’s (it was a gift)

Colts Strong

Yesterday was a big day for me – the beginning of the NFL playoffs.  Next to fashion, football is probably my favorite past-time, and I seldom miss a Colts game.  Especially when they’re in the playoffs.

Alas, my boys were one and done, but we have a rookie quarterback phenom in Andrew Luck, so I have full confidence in the future.  And, even if my team were terrible, I do not shy away from showing my spirit.

The no-white after Labor day/before Memorial Day rule is passe, but to pull off white during the winter, you really have to anchor it with some more seasonal items.  I didn’t do this.  I tried with my black boots, but a light-weight t-shirt still made me look summery.  To really wear white jeans in January, you should have on boots and a sweater or jacket.

However, for the sake of being true to my team’s colors, I sacrificed a little on the fashion-rule side.  Do what I say, not what I do.

And since the Colts are out, go Broncos!  I’m just sorry that now I have to wear orange.

Where are you, Christmas?

Before I fully embrace the new year, there are a couple Christmas leftovers I need to finish.  (Not cookies…like the rest of the world, my diet started Tuesday.  Promise.)

My office believes in celebrating Christmas to the fullest.  I had at least four work parties this year, all of which called for festive apparel.  However, I still had to look professional, so I created the festive look through color and a few sparkles.

The first picture was my outfit for a western-themed party.  As much as I love them, I couldn’t bring myself to wear cowboy boots to work, so I wore a blouse with horse shoes on it as my nod to the theme (and my NFL team – go Colts!). I belted the sweater to make the outfit look a little bit more polished and complete.

The second picture shows that you can do sequins at work.  However, to tone down the bling, I wore a conservative cardigan and trousers and minimal jewelry.

My green pants are J-Crew, and I got them for a mega-deal at a sample sale in NYC.  I was born to live in the city. My red shirt is from Old Navy, and the red sweater from the Gap Outlet.  The sequin shirt is actually from Wal-Mart – it’s hard to find clothes there that don’t look cheap and/or fit poorly, but it’s an exciting day when you do!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with their loved ones and that you all got some beautiful clothes wrapped up under the tree.  On to 2013!
