I don’t know what the weather is like where you are, but it suddenly got cold here in Georgia! I mean, not actually cold. But, I was sweating in my shorts and tank top (at the Big and Rich concert!!!) Saturday evening, and by the time I walked out of church on Sunday, I needed to change into jeans and a sweater. So something changed, and I’ve got the incessant itchy nose and sneezes to prove it.
In light of that, I’m going to try to clear out any remaining summer outfits before I get too ridiculously out of season.
These shoes are about as summery as they get – jelly plastic, embellished flip-flop, neon yellow. They’re really kinda difficult to walk in; my foot slides out. But, they’re so pretty, aren’t they?
I suppose this outfit is pretty self-explanatory – a very casual, Saturday look, made a little more exciting by lime shorts and sequins. Sequins make everything more exciting.
How’s the weather where you are? Are you ready for fall, or still hanging on to your summer wardrobe, hoping for an Indian summer? (Also, is that a politically incorrect term?)
Today’s post features yesterday’s shoes; sorry I’m not always as original as I’d like to be.
But the shoes are hardly the star of today’s outfit, anyway. There are a lot of individual pieces I really like here, but I think my favorite thing about this look is the color combination. Peach and yellow are a little unexpected, but these shades work well together, especially because the scarf is embellished with a lot of different colors, including a peach/pink/whatever-you-put-next-to-it shade.
It’s a little hard to tell in this picture, but my tank has gold sequin stripes, so I pulled out the gold with my favorite lion cuff. The look is very casual, yet put together and bling-y. Just like I like it.
Fashion tip: Unless you’re 21 or a movie star with washboard abs, skip the cropped top trend. It’s perfectly acceptable to use layers under a shorter length (like I did with the jacket above) and look of-the-moment without being age-inappropriate.
- Jacket: Hand-me-down
- Jeans: Off Saks
- Sandals: JCP
- Cuff: Rue 21
- Tank: Old Navy
- Scarf: India
I promised that I’d give you all my excuses for being a bad blogger lately. Well, I really only have one legitimate excuse – I’ve been traveling for work a lot. Like 3 out of the last 4 weeks a lot. So, it’s about all I can do to even keep my clothes washed, much less photographed and blogged.
Excuses out of the way, I thought I’d give you an insight into how I dress for my work travels these days. We talked about this a little bit last fall, but since my job has changed, I thought the topic could stand to be revisited.
First of all, my shoes. Not exciting, but cute, embellished sandals that I paid about $2.50 for because I had a $10 coupon at JCPenney and they were on sale for $12.50.
More relevantly, I tend to wear pretty basic outfits when I’m traveling for this job (I realize my definition of basic is a little different than many). Here’s an example:
Yes, the skirt is a light blue, but that can really go with a lot of different things. So, I’m calling it a neutral.
The reason I’m wearing something so basic is that my job when I’m traveling is to sell products, so I try to model as many of them as possible. It’s really fun dressing (and redressing) myself every day! Here is an example of the finished product:
The scarf, 3 bracelets, and a headband (not pictured) are all Rahab’s Rope items. Everything we have is so pretty, so I like to wear neutrals so I can mix and match anything that strikes my fancy for the day.
You can model similar items yourself! Check out our website for all the pretty goodies and help end human trafficking in India at the same time.
How do you dress for work? I’d love to see some of your looks! Please send them my way so I can feature you in a future post!
