Today’s prompt was “With Olives Please”. If I was one of those cool, edgy girls, I probably would have an military drab jacket in my closet that would have been perfect for such an occasion. I’m not one of those girls.
Instead, I had this floral maxi (same effect, right?) with some olive-green leaves on it, and one of my favorite pairs of shoes (that I’ve had for so long, they really are quite worn out/hard to walk in now, but I can’t bring myself to part with them).
Yes, technically, this is a summer dress, but I believe in the right to bare arms as long as the weather (and the occasion, Mrs. Obama) support it, and florals have become a year round print these days. Add in a black base to keep the pattern from being too Easter-y, and you can definitely make a dress like this work well into an Indian summer (that’s probably not a politically correct term, is it? Alternatives?)
Do you have much olive in your wardrobe? What would you have worn for this prompt? If not the color, maybe a graphic tee with a martini on it? I could totally see that being a thing.
Happy Memorial Day!
I’ve heard people talking lately about how Memorial Day is about so much more than just barbecues, the beach, and summer. And, I couldn’t agree more! If you know me at all, you know how much I <3 the military. And the United States. I cry every time I hear God Bless America, and often during the National Anthem. Seriously.
But, that’s why I love Memorial Day, even in all of its vacation fun. It’s not at all that the lives we are remembering are overshadowed. But, I don’t think all the men and women who gave their lives for our safety and liberty would want us to spend a day in somber, solemn remembrance. That’s not why they died. They sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom to have fun and spend time with friends and family, without fear of attack or destruction of our way of life. They paid the ultimate price so that the American dream could remain alive and that people all over this country could continue to live it.
So, yes, take a moment to remember all of the people who fought and died so courageously so that we would not have to. But then, enjoy your day with friends and family, celebrating everything that it means to be an American in the summer time.
And wear pretty clothes!
I think pineapples are becoming trendy now. I didn’t know that when I bought this shirt a couple months ago- I just thought it was cute. But, since its purchase, I’ve seen pineapples popping up in a lot of places. And, since it is one of nature’s most perfect foods, I’m okay with that.
For this look, I decided to keep the palette pretty neutral – golden fruit commands enough attention on its own. I like gold with army green, though, and the military look is also a lingering trend. Obviously, my ruffled skirt and dangly earrings are a VERY loose interpretation of the trend, but it gets the nod, nevertheless.
These shoes are a staple of my summer wardrobe – first blogged here. How would you style a pineapple?
- Shirt: Kohl’s
- Skirt: Old Navy
- Shoes: Rue 21 (?? I really have no idea)
- I know I need a haircut…Wednesday it will happen. Don’t judge me until then!
