Easter Finery

Happy Easter, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed a joyful day celebrating the resurrection of Jesus! Easter has become one of my favorite holidays over the past few years. It is just such a happy day: good food, spring weather, friends and family, relatively little commercialism, bright colors – and genuine happiness because Jesus didn’t stay dead but rose again to save us all. What could be more worth celebrating?

Plus…Easter is an excuse to get a pretty new dress. As if I needed one – an excuse, or a new dress. This year, though, after much searching through stacks of polyester dresses (honestly, why is that fabric even in existence anymore), I came away empty handed. Almost.

My thought process while shopping is a bit all over the place and evolves as I walk. On Friday, I painted my nails yellow, in expectation that whatever I wore for Easter would have some yellow in it. So, when I found some white dresses, I immediately envisioned yellow accents, which led me to the shoe section in search of yellow heels.

Yellow heels were not to be found, but instead, these beautiful Steve Madden soft-pastel floral sandals cried out to me, begging to be bought. Naturally, I had to oblige, and although they wouldn’t match my yellow nails, I could still imagine how pretty they’d look with the white lace dresses I’d seen in the previous store.

So, back to TJ Maxx I went to try on about 5 white lace dresses…none of which were flattering for various reasons. C’est la vie. I still had my pretty shoes, though, and knew I could build something around them, and of course, the off-white dress I already owned was perfectly suitable.

I did miss getting my Easter dress this year, but I’m sure my bank account is fine with it, and no one at my new church knew the difference. And I kinda like this Easter shoes thing…maybe a new tradition?

Twofer Tuesday: Christmas Edition

As I think I’ve probably made abundantly clear, I really love Nashville.  There’s so much to do here, and people are super nice.  Like meet you in the morning and invite you to their Christmas party in the afternoon nice.

So, I’ve had a lot more opportunity to wear my ugly Christmas vest (not sweater, because you know I always have to be a little different) this year than I had the past couple of years.  Best $3 investment I’ve ever made.

In version one, I was going to an ugly sweater benefit concert featuring a bunch of people, but most significantly for me, Bobby Bones and the Raging Idiots were playing.  If you live under a rock (or just don’t listen to country music in select iHeart radio markets), Bobby Bones is a syndicated morning show host and the only talk radio I ever willingly listen to. I’ve been a fan for years, so this was a big deal.

Of course, this picture doesn’t quite capture the outfit as well as I would have liked. The tights aren’t the same blue as my blouse, but they matched better than it appears here, especially considering they would only be viewed in the dim light of a music venue.

1 - ugly Christmas vest 1Version 2 was for the afore-mentioned new friend’s Dirty Santa party. Other than the girl who invited me, I didn’t know anyone at the party, so I wanted to make a good first-impression without looking like I was trying to hard: nice blouse/cute jeans, but flat boots to tone it down.  Really, the vest is perfect for me because I can still be tacky and festive while wearing cute clothes.

TBT: St. Paddy’s Day

Last week, I mentioned that I was going to have to throw some green outfit together for St. Patrick’s Day, since I’d left my green pants at the dry cleaner.  But, I just couldn’t do it.  Once I get an outfit idea in my head, it’s really hard for me to let go of it.  So, I got ready, threw on some jeans, drove through the dry cleaner, and changed at work.  No one was the wiser.  A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

I’ve probably mentioned to you how sometimes my outfits look better in real life than on camera.  I really can’t figure out what to attribute this to, other than my poor photography skills.  Regardless, this is one of those cases.  I didn’t want to skip showing you, as I often do with poorly photographed outfits, because it’s a holiday outfit, and I love holiday outfits!  Plus, my nails were done for the occasion, and that is so seldom the case.

So, appreciate the awesomeness that is my green pants, and don’t dwell too much on the rest.  But do please tell me about your holiday celebrations – did you remember to wear green (I reminded you, so really, no excuses…).  Did you drink green beer or eat corned beef and cabbage (that’s what people eat, right?) Let’s talk!

Oh, and if you were really upset about not seeing a good picture of my shoes on Monday (or about seeing my dirty car rug), here’s another chance.  Same shoes.
