Today I thought it would be fun to do another two-for-Tuesday, mixing and matching a couple of pieces to see two completely different ways to wear an item. But, I discovered that I’ve been wearing a lot of the same articles over and over. So, today is actually a three-for-Tuesday. I had hoped for this to be an infinity blog – where each outfit seamlessly transitions to the next for all eternity (or at least, the length of this post) – but there is a broken link that I would need one more outfit to fix. Blogging goals.
First up, one of my favorite blouses from Old Navy, dressed up with a pleated skirt and jewelry courtesy of Rahab’s Rope. I was at a work event, so whenever I do those, I try to display as much of our company’s products as possible; it’s a great sales technique (you can by these or similar pieces here). I also just really love my plaid cherry shoes with this polka dot blouse. Subtle print mixing at its finest.
Next, I remixed this blouse on a casual day with some Target super acid-washed jeans, and my favorite RocketDog heels (which I recently said goodbye to. Tear.) They lived a good life. Of course, it’s not TOO casual, since I’m wearing heels and dangly earrings, but the outfit definitely has a completely different feel from the outfit above.
And lastly are my jeans recycled with a graphic tee, and given a menswear spin with my boxy blazer and oxford saddle shoes. I want to embrace this menswear trend, but I feel weird every time I do it. Maybe I should just accept that I can’t conquer every fashion trend that comes along, no matter how hard I try.
How do you think I did? Three distinct looks, or would you call me out on wearing the same clothes multiple times in a week (for the record, these three outfits were not all worn in the same week). How about menswear – do you like, love it, absolutely hate it? What’s your favorite piece to wear over and over?
For this week’s Two-fer Tuesday, I’m focused on another skirt: my favorite “vegan leather” blue beauty. Of course, it’s a little tricky to make a light blue, studded leather skirt look too different – no matter what you do to it, it’s pretty noticeable. But I do think I was able to achieve a new feel with the second outfit, and the overall impact of the two looks was very different.
In option 1, I was trying to go casual – as casual as you can be in a flouncy leather skirt. So, I paired it with a gilded sweater/sweatshirt and some flat oxfords. (And, of course, my favorite necklace from Rahab’s Rope.)
I’m not sure why this picture turned out so dark; I even lightened it in my photo editor/collage app. Ugh, photography… You get the point.
In option 2, I took my old lady floral Peter Pan collar blouse that I really love, added my over-the-knee boots, and took this picture at the end of the day so I would look as tired and disheveled as possible. Every once in a while, I wear an outfit that looks much better in real life than on camera. This is one of those times. I promise it was cute – lots of people said so. But despite how it photographed, I couldn’t skip posting the picture because then it would just be a one-fer Tuesday, and that is not nearly as catchy. Focus on the earrings.
What do you think? Different looks, or basically the same thing, disguised as creativity? What would you wear with this skirt? Let’s talk!
Do any of you watch New Girl with Zooey Deschanel? It is by far the greatest show (well, greatest comedy, anyway) on TV right now. I giggle like a 12 year old any every time I watch it, even when I’ve seen an episode three times already. (I do always have to give a disclaimer…it can be pretty inappropriate some times. So, if you’re more careful about what you watch, you might not like it. But, it is funny!!!!)
All that to say, several people have told me I remind them of Zooey’s character, Jess. I don’t know if this is ACTUALLY a compliment, but I love her, so I take it as one.
One of the things I love most about Jess is her wardrobe. Every day, she looks straight out of Mod Cloth, wearing adorable skirts and dresses with tights and flats.
So, while this dress is cute on its own merit, I especially love it because when I wear it, I feel like I’m channeling Jess, my alter ego. And that’s just fun.
I bought these shoes under the impression that they were brown and black. But now, against the black tights, I think they may just be brown and dark brown… Oh well. Don’t look too closely at the colors, and just appreciate the cute, menswear-inspired oxfords.
If you watch New Girl, what’s your favorite episode?! If you don’t, what’s your favorite show, and why do you love it?
