Twofer Tuesday: Palazzo Pants

Palazzo pants are definitely my favorite trend right now.  They’re so comfortable, but somehow, still look dressy and dignified (that may also be due to the fact that my height disadvantage requires me to wear heels with them so they don’t drag on the ground…but whatever).

Here are two different pairs, and two totally different stylings.  In the first, I tried to make the look a little more casual with chambray and neon.  In the second, I obviously went for a dressier look with black and white and pearls.

Which look do you like better?

1 - chambray and palazzo(Btw, I think this whole tying shirts at the waist thing is back.  If not, I’m going to try to make it happen.  Hopefully I’m more successful than Gretchen was with “fetch.”)
1 - black palazzo, pearls
It’s a little hard to tell in this picture, but my shoes are pink. I wanted to introduce a subtle color into my black and white palette, but not distract from the elegant look. Pink is always an easy addition.

Wednesday’s Woman: Anna

There are three little verses in Luke that I just love.  Since it’s such a short passage, I’ll just write it out here:

There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,  and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.  – Luke 2:36-38

It’s not a particularly profound passage; if you blink, you miss it altogether.  But, I love it for the beautiful gift of honor God bestowed on this faithful woman.

The Scripture is unclear as to whether Anna was 84 or had been widowed for 84 years.  Regardless, she was old, and she had spent those years in complete service to God, worshiping Him day in and day out.  And God rewarded her in the most unbelievable way possible – He allowed her to meet His baby Son.  After serving God for so long, I can’t imagine Anna wanting anything more than to see the promised Savior, and that’s exactly what the Lord gave her.  Not only that, He ensured her legacy of faithfulness would continue for millennia by recording her story in the Bible.

Isn’t that sweet?  Of all the people who could have met Jesus at the temple that day, God chose one of them to be a woman, demonstrating His kindness not only to her, but to all women by including them in His Son’s story.  And, He showed us that the rewards for faithfulness to Him are truly above and beyond anything that we could imagine (you know I love Eph. 3:20-21).

So don’t give up, friends.  Sometimes serving God is really hard.  But, He does not forget about us – even when we’re 84 – and He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Heb. 11:6).

Anna

I can’t help but think Anna was a little bit of a hippy.  I really wanted to find a t-shirt for her that just said LOVE on the front, but I had trouble locating it.  You’ll just have to imagine.

We’ll Never Be Royals

This weekend, I went shopping.  I needed to pick up a couple of things legitimately.  Then I got a few more.

One of my purchases are these super fun palazzo pants.  I have several genie/harem pants, but none of these ultra wide leg trousers.  In anticipation of writing this post, I tried to figure out why they’re called palazzo pants.  Apparently, no one on the internet knows, as I spent a good 4 minutes searching and came up with nothing.  However, I did discover that palazzo means palace in Italian.  So, I’m going to assume that these pants were commonly worn among the Italian royal set, and they have since remained a symbol of casual luxury.

Seems as good an explanation as any, right?

Anyway, I got these on clearance at Target for $14.  You can find them here (although not on clearance).  We’ve talked about the Target Cartwheel app before (refresher here), and I definitely used that for 50% off some Easter candy.  But, Target was also doing a promotion where you could text for a $5 off $25 apparel/shoes/accessories coupon.  So, that happened.

I love these pants for many reasons.

1) I basically feel like I’m wearing pajamas.  Super soft, comfortable pajamas.

2) They are SO flattering!  I haven’t observed enough people in them to know if they are universally flattering, but my guess would be yes.

3) They make me look tall.  Few things make me look tall – I am not tall.  But to get these off the floor, I have to wear fairly high heels, which are still mostly covered by the pants, thus giving the illusion of height.

4) You can dress them up or down, but they always look put together.  (Well, I say always – I’m sure an over-sized, untucked freebie t-shirt could ruin the look, but I have more faith in all of you than that.)

1 - palazzo pants and teeDon’t mind the dirty floor in the shoe pictures.  I’d forgotten to take one and took it in my car.  Obviously, I don’t vacuum my car as often as I should.  #nojudgment.

Have you tried palazzo pants yet?  It actually is a season or two old, so I’m a little late to the party, but I hope it lasts a long time.  What do you think of the look?

(P.S. My tee shirt is from H&M)
