Patriots and Politics

Y’all know I’m super patriotic, but this election is really stressing me out. More than perhaps any other (in my lifetime, anyway), I think there are really huge implications of this election, and as a non-fan of any of the candidates (including 3rd party), I am a little overwhelmed. Facebook’s non-stop political barrage does not help.

So, like the good ostrich that I am, I bury my head in the sand a little, and just pray – that I know who I should vote for, and that God has mercy on us all.

And, I wear flag cardigans, because i just can’t help myself. I actually wore this after Hillary’s speech at the DNC, which was accidental on my part, but not lost on some of my colleagues. I promise I was making no statement, except that last week’s belted-sweater over a dress look was so popular, I thought I’d try it again.

1 - patriotic polka dotsThis sweater does hang a little weird on me – it makes my shoulders look quite broad and boxy. But, it was $3, and I always get compliments on it, so I endure. And, I got a little bold with my pattern mixing here, but it works because the navy’s match and the motifs are both Americana-esque.

On Wednesday, I have another unique spin on one of my dresses that I’m excited to show you. I promised creativity, and I’m trying my best to live up to that!

God Bless America, 2015

Happy 4th of July, y’all!  Of course, everyone knows that this is my favorite holiday.  Because, AMERICA!!!!

As you read this, I’m wrapping up my time in Florida, driving back to Georgia tomorrow, where I will do some laundry, repack, and go to bed early so I can get on a plane tomorrow and go to one of the most patriotic places on earth – Texas!

I’m sure I’ll wear a lot of red, white, and blue this weekend, and you’ll read about it eventually.  In the meantime, though, here’s one of my favorite festive blouses, featuring horseshoes – a tribute not only to our country’s colors, but also to my beloved football team.

Of course, were I wearing this particular outfit in Texas, to any 4th of July festivity, or just to a honky tonk, I’d swap out my sandals for some cowboy boots.  But, I thought my boss might make fun of me if I showed up in those to work.
1 - horseshoe blouse and white skirtI hope you all have an amazing weekend, filled with beautiful fireworks, sun and sand, grilled meat and cold beverages, and all the red, white, and blue you can handle.  Happy birthday, America!  Here’s to many more years as the greatest nation on earth.  You will always have our hearts.
