Twofer Tuesday: Christmas Edition

As I think I’ve probably made abundantly clear, I really love Nashville.  There’s so much to do here, and people are super nice.  Like meet you in the morning and invite you to their Christmas party in the afternoon nice.

So, I’ve had a lot more opportunity to wear my ugly Christmas vest (not sweater, because you know I always have to be a little different) this year than I had the past couple of years.  Best $3 investment I’ve ever made.

In version one, I was going to an ugly sweater benefit concert featuring a bunch of people, but most significantly for me, Bobby Bones and the Raging Idiots were playing.  If you live under a rock (or just don’t listen to country music in select iHeart radio markets), Bobby Bones is a syndicated morning show host and the only talk radio I ever willingly listen to. I’ve been a fan for years, so this was a big deal.

Of course, this picture doesn’t quite capture the outfit as well as I would have liked. The tights aren’t the same blue as my blouse, but they matched better than it appears here, especially considering they would only be viewed in the dim light of a music venue.

Other than the girl who invited me, I didn’t know anyone at the party, so I wanted to make a good first-impression without looking like I was trying to hard: nice blouse/cute jeans, but flat boots to tone it down.  Really, the vest is perfect for me because I can still be tacky and festive while wearing cute clothes.

Guess who’s back, back again

So, this is embarrassing…I knew I hadn’t posted in a while, but I didn’t realize the last time was before Halloween! I really thought I’d have more time on my hands in Nashville, but between moving/unpacking, job hunting/interviewing, teaching an online course, and not yet having internet in my house, I have actually been quite busy.  Estimating how long it’s going to take me to do things/how many hours are in a day is not one of my strengths.

But, most of my boxes are now unpacked and I have no money to go shopping for more things to put away, so I should have more time going forward to get into a regular routine of writing.

To update you on my life:

  • I found a place to live. It’s seriously the cutest. Here’s my closet: wpid-img_20151118_090522.jpg(Well, the shoes part of my closet.  Because duh.)

And my Christmas tree:

  • No job yet, but I’ve had some good leads, so I’m hopeful that will happen soon. In the meantime, thanks Mom and Dad for keeping me alive. And thanks unemployment for keeping me skinny.
  • I’ve gone on a couple dates in Nashville so far, and I have some…observations.  More on that in a future post.

I don’t know yet where I’m going to set up my camera for future outfit posts. Also, I’m really only getting dressed every day to go to a coffee shop, so my looks haven’t been super exciting so far (although the girl at Starbucks today did tell me I looked very put together.  Also, don’t judge that I’m going to Starbucks in the land of a million coffee shops.  It’s right by my house and the nicest Starbucks I’ve ever been to outside of Mumbai, India.).  All that to say, I’ll probably be posting some Georgia looks for the next couple of weeks until I get that part of my life more settled.

For now, here is my much-teased but now irrelevant Halloween costume.  My best friend Delenna and I were a construction worker and a stud finder for Halloween this year.  GET IT, GUYS??

Please note my interpretation of “steel-toed boots” below, as well.

Very Pinteresting

I read an article a few weeks ago about a lady who spent 30 days living according to Pinterest’s Most Popular page – an interesting concept that maybe some time I’ll try when I’m a little bored or short on blog topics.

But, my favorite part of her article was when she was talking about clothing.  She said all the Pinterest outfits were so cute, but when she tried them, she felt like she was wearing SO MANY CLOTHES!  I started thinking about it, and that’s really true.  Trendy Pinterest outfits really are all about the layers.  So, I decided to create my own version of a Pinterest outfit, and see how many layers I could put on my body without looking absurd.

1 - pinterest outfitOn top, we have a shirt, a vest, and a scarf – so, three.  If I’d wanted to really go crazy, I could have added a statement necklace, but the scarf was just a little too blousy for that.  On bottom, I have jeans, boot socks, and then boots, of course.  If I were basic, I would not have worn my cowboy boots – they’re not really the ideal boot sock boots.  But, I’m not and I prefer a little variation in my looks, so I wore what I wanted.

The one thing I’m doing here that’s not very Pinterest-y is wearing a simple gold cuff.  Pinterest girls would have multiple bangles, a watch, and who knows what else going on.  But for my real life, the cuff was much more practical.

So what do you think?  Pinterest worthy, or not enough layers?  Would you wear an outfit like this – what spins would you put on it?

(Oh, and side note, my puffy vest – which I love – is from Belk.  If you snag one, you can match me and the two senior citizens I’ve seen wearing the exact same one…)
