If you follow me on my Tastefully Trendy instagram account, you know I went through an unfortunate period in January where I had a bad cold that required me not to wear eye makeup for about a week. I felt very exposed. And very young – maybe that part wasn’t so bad.
This is one of the outfits from that period. As I talked about last week, I’ve really been lacking in creativity lately, so I can’t afford to not post a look because I’m a little vain about the #nomakeup thing. So, look through a soft filter…
Yesterday, I went through my closet, in hopes of a giant purge. While I did find some things to get rid of, I also rediscovered all of my cute blazers. When I worked at a law school, I wore blazers all the time. But, working for a non-profit and in music, I kinda fell out of the habit. Now that I’m in a more professional dress environment again, and since I’m in a fashion rut, anyway, I’m going to try to reincorporate these into my wardrobe – hopefully I can breathe new life into some of these old staples.
This camel blazer, though, has not been forgotten at all. As you might notice if you scroll back far enough, it’s been on major repeat this winter.
I’m kinda thinking that I might do more of the blazer with a t-shirt and jeans thing in this new phase of my life. Still on-trend and very Nashville, but incorporating the pieces I already own. We’ll see how the Spirit moves me.
Do you wear blazers often? What’s your favorite way to style them? I definitely need inspiration, so if you have ideas, please throw them my way!
I’m not going to lie, this jacket is on major repeat this winter. It’s just so multi-purpose. It makes casual outfits more professional, professional outfits more wearable, and it’s wool and I’ve been freezing for two weeks straight.
So, if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen it once this week…oh well. Hashtag real life.
There’s just something about a camel blazer that is so universally classic. I dig it. And this skirt, because I’ve also worn it a million times recently – occasionally with less static, but again, #reallife.Do you have pieces you’re basically living in this winter? What’s seen the most play from your wardrobe?
Do any of you watch New Girl with Zooey Deschanel? It is by far the greatest show (well, greatest comedy, anyway) on TV right now. I giggle like a 12 year old any every time I watch it, even when I’ve seen an episode three times already. (I do always have to give a disclaimer…it can be pretty inappropriate some times. So, if you’re more careful about what you watch, you might not like it. But, it is funny!!!!)
All that to say, several people have told me I remind them of Zooey’s character, Jess. I don’t know if this is ACTUALLY a compliment, but I love her, so I take it as one.
One of the things I love most about Jess is her wardrobe. Every day, she looks straight out of Mod Cloth, wearing adorable skirts and dresses with tights and flats.
So, while this dress is cute on its own merit, I especially love it because when I wear it, I feel like I’m channeling Jess, my alter ego. And that’s just fun.
I bought these shoes under the impression that they were brown and black. But now, against the black tights, I think they may just be brown and dark brown… Oh well. Don’t look too closely at the colors, and just appreciate the cute, menswear-inspired oxfords.
If you watch New Girl, what’s your favorite episode?! If you don’t, what’s your favorite show, and why do you love it?
It’s Friday, y’all, and that means a very busy weekend, as I get ready for Christmas and a cross-country move. But, as one of my friends said, “sleep is overrated”.
The weather is actually unseasonably warm today – I’m not sure how I feel about that. But, a few days ago when I wore this outfit, it was not at all warm, so I layered with long sleeves, wool, tights, and boots.
I love this wool skirt, one of my favorite examples of patience at work. I almost bought it when it was full price at JCP a few years ago, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Low and behold, a few weeks later, the clearance rack decided to bless me, and the black-and-white-plaid-with-the-pink-belt skirt was mine! My philosophy is generally that if you wait for something to go on sale and it disappears, you didn’t really need it in the first place. With few exceptions, that principle has been stretching my money and expanding my wardrobe for years.
Thanks to a bracelet with inspirational colors, I decided to pair a deep green, almost teal, shirt with the pink accessories, keeping the bottom half of my look simple and warm!
I hope everyone has a great weekend – let’s go Christmas shopping!
Shirt: Old Navy
Sorry, guys – I don’t remember the rest…
